Chiropractic Care, Cold Laser and Plantar Fasciitis
“This new technology is a breakthrough for chronic heel pain sufferers, because it offers pain-free treatment with no known side effects or contraindications.”
Do I have Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar Fasciitis is a condition that affects millions of people each year and is the number one cause of heel pain.
The classic symptoms of plantar fasciitis include heel pain that is usually most severe first thing in the morning. The first step in the morning is the worst step. However, symptoms can vary.
This condition is characterized by inflammation at the heel bone.
What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fascia is a layer of tough fibrous tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot and supports your arch. This is one of the longest and strongest ligaments in the body. As the plantar fascia pulls on the heel, your body will respond by laying down more bone in the area. This can be seen on an x-ray and is known as a heel spur.
How do I get rid of Plantar Fasciitis?
There are two main concepts in the treatment of plantar fasciitis: 1) the decrease of inflammation and 2) addressing the cause of the condition.
Here are some helpful tips that you can do at home for the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis:
- Wear proper supportive footwear
- Rest your feet
- Use ice to reduce the inflammation
- Take anti-inflammatory supplements like Omega III Fish Oil
- Strengthening exercises
- Stretching exercises
- Night Splints
The right custom orthotics are often the best defense in the prevention of plantar fasciits and the most reliable long-term cure for existing conditions. A Sole Supports™ orthotic, unlike typical custom orthotics, is designed to completely support the corrected arch of your foot, determined by a unique way of capturing your optimal foot position. A restored arch significantly reduces the daily pull on the plantar fascia by relaxing the ‘bowstring” function of the fascia. It is the only practical way to address both the symptoms AND the cause of your problem.
Cold Laser / Low Level Light Therapy:
Cold laser is the most cutting edge treatment for foot and leg pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis. In-fact, Erchonia just received FDA clearance to treat this exact condition based on a double-blind, randomized, multi-site and placebo-controlled clinical trial. Here are the results of that study:
After just two FX635 treatments a week for three weeks, patients treated with the FX635 Laser reported reduced pain on the VAS scale at 2 weeks, 6 months and 12 months post-treatment. On average, patients went from a 68 on the VAS scale down to 8 at the 12-month mark. Those patients who received a placebo laser did not achieve a statistically-significant reduction in pain at any time during the clinical trial.
Michael Coughlin, MD, the clinical investigator, stated, “Erchonia’s FX635 low level laser for chronic plantar fasciitis demonstrated exceptional results with a marked reduction in almost all of the 30 treated patients. They had suffered from plantar fasciitis for an average of almost a year—one patient had pain for 5 years. All had undergone a variety of non-operative treatments which had all been unsuccessful. At the year follow-up point, almost all patients noted a dramatic reduction in pain and an improvement in function.”
